Fast and sustainable travel
Since its launch in 1994, Eurostar trains have carried more than 200 million passengers between London and European cities. Eurostar has the fastest trains in the UK, with speeds up to nearly 200 km/h.
Eurostar is an excellent mode of transport for eco-conscious business travellers, and one flight between London and Paris has the carbon footprint of 14 Eurostar journeys.
In partnership with Trees 4 Travel, Eurostar gives passengers the opportunity to plant trees to offset their travel when they book through the Eurostar Business platform.
Green achievements
As part of its sustainability plan, Eurostar has joined the UN’s Race to Zero, and the company is taking bold steps to reach zero carbon emissions by 2030.
In 2018, Eurostar reduced the use of plastic onboard by 36%, replacing 3.5 tonnes of plastic cutlery with a biodegradable wooden alternative. The company removed 800,000 water bottles from Business Premier lounges and switched 1.5m plastic cups with compostable plant-based cups.
London Convention Bureau travel by train
Rail transport is a more eco-friendly way to travel, and the London Convention Bureau aims to reduce its carbon footprint by choosing sustainable options when travelling to business events.
Barbara Jamison, Head of Europe at London & Partners, demonstrated this commitment when she opted to travel by train to IBTM World in Barcelona in 2022. By combining the journey with client meetings in Paris and work onboard, Barbara used her travel time effectively and arrived in Barcelona ready for a packed conference show.
The London Convention Bureau looks forward to other industry shows, such as IMEX Frankfurt, to encourage our partners to travel by train.
