About

Take a leisurely walk in Bushy Park, home to more than three hundred red and fallow deer. There’s plenty of other wildlife to enjoy, water features to find and woodland gardens to stroll through.

The Longford River, a man-made canal, runs through the park which is one of London’s eight Royal Parks.

What is there to see at Bushy Park?

Make your way along Lime Avenue, an avenue of lime trees that leads the way to the imposing Diana Fountain. The marble and stone fountain is topped by the statue of a bronze goddess surrounded by bronzes of four water nymphs, four boys and four shells. It stands in the middle of Chestnut Avenue another imposing avenue of trees, this time horse chestnuts, which was designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

There are more water features to enjoy in the recently restored Upper Lodge Water Gardens, a collection of pools, cascades, basins and a canal. Look out for the Grade II-listed brewhouse which provided beer to the residents of the Upper Lodge when beer was safer to drink than water.

Towering trees provide the backdrop to a walk in the tranquil setting of the Waterhouse Woodland Gardens. The gardens’ 60 acres includes several ponds and peaceful spots including the Silver Birch Glade and the Willow Plantation.

Wildlife of all kinds thrives throughout the park. Deer roam freely and have been part of the park’s history for more than 500 years. Elusive creatures such as water voles, hedgehogs and bats have also set up home in the park as have owls, woodpeckers and kingfishers.
